Volunteers Revamp DIY Skate Park with Repairs and New Features

Volunteers Mississippi, USA, worked together to repair, repaint, and upgrade the Biloxi DIY Skatepark during a community-led beautification and maintenance event. Local skaters, families, and supporters participated in improving ramps, obstacles, and park surfaces while adding new skate features to the facility. The project focused on maintaining the heavily used community skate space, which has grown into a major gathering point for local skateboarders and BMX riders.

Organisers said the works aimed to improve safety, extend the life of existing skate infrastructure, and create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for users.

The Biloxi DIY Skatepark was originally developed through grassroots volunteer efforts and donated materials due to the lack of permanent public skate facilities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Community organisations and local supporters continue advocating for a professionally designed permanent skatepark while carrying out ongoing upgrades and maintenance at the current site. Recent improvements at the facility have also included new lighting installations to improve visibility and safety during evening use.
