EduMarking says structured playground surfaces offer Australian schools a practical way to increase children’s physical activity during school breaks. The company cited national and international data indicating low activity levels among Australian children and substantial sedentary time on unmarked hard playground surfaces.
According to the article, Australia received a D- for overall physical activity in the Global Matrix 4.0 benchmark, while around one in four Australian children meets the recommended 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. ABS data cited by EduMarking indicates children spend 46.6% of break time sedentary on unmarked hard surfaces.
The article also references the University of Sydney’s Sydney Playground Project, a cluster randomised controlled trial across 12 primary schools. The research found that simple, low-cost playground interventions increased children’s physical activity and social skills.
EduMarking says playground line marking can apply this approach through game markings, activity zones, fitness circuits and curriculum-aligned designs. Its heat-applied thermoplastic installations are rated to last seven years or more and can be installed within one to three days during school holiday periods. The company provides services nationally and operates across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
