About Us

What we do

Play Safe Institute is a leading Australian provider of training and certification for play and playground inspectors. We also quality assure our courses and trainer/assessors to help ensure inspector training aligns with relevant standards and recognised best practice across Australia.

Play safety is essential, both to protect children using play equipment and to help councils, schools, and organisations reduce risk and meet their duty of care. By engaging certified inspectors trained and assessed by our specialist experts, asset owners can be confident inspections are completed to a consistent standard and to the required level of competence.

Our Vision

Our vision is clear: safer playgrounds and play spaces across all types of play areas and equipment. We do this by:

  • Training and certifying individual play inspectors who demonstrate the required knowledge and practical competence
  • Maintaining a public register of inspectors who meet the standard and agree to the terms and conditions of registration
  • Promoting the Register of Play Inspectors so organisations and individuals can more easily find qualified inspection services

Play Safe Institute is supported by a team of industry specialists with expertise across the areas we cover, including:

Play area and equipment safety

In Australia, playground and equipment inspections commonly include:

  • Level 3 annual comprehensive audits and post-installation inspection reports
  • Level 2 operational inspections
  • Level 1 routine visual inspections

Our training and certification pathways support inspection capability across:

  • Playground equipment and surfacing
  • Shade sail safety
  • Surface impact testing
  • Outdoor exercise and fitness equipment
  • Parkour facilities
  • Skateparks

With children’s safety as the priority, our founding organisations came together to support an independent, credible certification framework for play equipment and play area inspections. This provides a clear pathway for inspectors to demonstrate competence, and for employers and asset owners to engage professionals with confidence.

The Register benefits inspectors, employers, and the public by:

  • Certifying organisations approved to deliver equipment and playground inspector training
  • Setting a clear syllabus and methodology for course delivery
  • Supporting appropriate resourcing to maintain quality outcomes
  • Ensuring candidates have multiple opportunities to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and competence
  • Promoting the purpose and value of the register to industry and play space operators
  • Supporting ongoing CPD so inspectors stay current with standards, equipment, and safety expectations
  • Maintaining a code of conduct that registered inspectors agree to follow
