A £1.1 million beachfront skatepark is set to be developed in Cliftonville, Margate, as part of wider regeneration efforts in the area. The project will transform a previously unused coastal space into a free, public skate facility designed for all skill levels. Plans include a concrete skatepark with both street-style and transition features, alongside supporting amenities such as seating areas, toilets, and a kiosk.
The skatepark is being designed by specialist firm Betongpark, known for creating modern and adaptable skate environments. The development aims to provide an inclusive recreational space while enhancing the appeal of the seafront for both residents and visitors.
The project forms part of the larger Margate Town Deal, a £22.2 million investment programme focused on revitalising key areas of the town. Additional improvements include upgrades to Walpole Bay, where new community spaces, a café, and improved public facilities such as showers and toilets are planned. Broader regeneration efforts also include restoring historic venues like the Theatre Royal and Winter Gardens.
Cliftonville has gained recognition in recent years, including being named one of the UK’s “coolest” neighbourhoods. While the area has seen growth in hospitality, tourism, and local businesses, it continues to face challenges such as vacant properties and environmental issues. The new skatepark and associated upgrades are intended to support community use, increase activity in public spaces, and contribute to ongoing urban renewal along the coastline.
