Playground renewal to improve safety, inclusivity and play opportunities for children

Two Rockhampton parks in Queensland will undergo playground equipment renewal to improve safety, inclusivity and play opportunities for children. Anderson Park in Wandal is having its old playground replaced with a new structure featuring a hammock swing suitable for all ages and abilities, interactive play panels, climbing frames, slides, shade structures and seating.

At Duthie Park in Frenchville, ageing play equipment is being replaced with new slides, monkey bars and climbing apparatus, the existing rubber Softfall is being removed and replaced with sand, and a perimeter fence will be installed. The upgrades are part of the Rockhampton Regional Council’s broader playground renewal program aimed at extending the life and safety of play facilities. Both playgrounds will be temporarily closed during construction, with park grounds remaining open to the public. Councillors highlighted that the enhancements are designed to support inclusive play and community use.
