At least five people, including two children, were injured when a swing ride collapsed at Happyland Amusement Park in India. The incident occurred during a busy school holiday period as the ride was operating with passengers seated in suspended chairs rotating high above the ground.
Video footage showed the ride beginning to tilt before riders were thrown into barriers and onto the ground as part of the structure failed. The injured visitors, aged between 14 and 54, were transported to hospital for treatment. Four people were reported to be in stable condition with fractures and other injuries, while one woman with more serious injuries was transferred to another hospital for specialised care.
Preliminary police investigations found failures in welding joints and the ride’s supporting metal structure. Authorities reported that parts of the iron support frame broke apart during operation and that wear and tear may have contributed to the collapse. Investigators are also examining whether the attraction had undergone required maintenance inspections and safety certification checks. Potential action against the park’s management may follow if negligence or safety violations are identified.
