A public mountain bike dirt jump area at Gleneagles Adventure Park in British Columbia is set to be removed after local council approved plans to redevelop the site. The decision will replace the existing dirt jumps and bike skills features with three regulation pickleball courts as part of a revised concept for the park.
The plan also includes the construction of a street-style skateboarding area while retaining and refurbishing the park’s existing skate bowl. The dirt jumps, which have been in declining condition, will be removed entirely under the approved proposal.
Local riders and residents had advocated for preserving the bike terrain park, which has served the community for around two decades and is the only dedicated mountain bike facility in the Horseshoe Bay area. Council staff said the decision was influenced by declining use of the bike area and increasing demand for pickleball courts.
An alternative pump track for riders has been suggested on nearby land, though it remains in the feasibility stage and has raised safety concerns due to its location across a busy road. Critics say it would require children to cross a busy road with limited pedestrian infrastructure and could separate the park’s riding facilities from the skate park, reducing the multi-disciplinary character of the original recreational space.
