Police in Michigan are investigating after dozens of sharp metal spikes were discovered at two public parks near playground areas. Officers found a total of 44 spikes at Cramton Park and Rotary Park in Lapeer, many of them positioned upright with the pointed ends facing upward.
The investigation began when a mother and child reported a spike protruding from the ground at Cramton Park. Police searched the area and located additional spikes, some buried under snow. Authorities believe the items were intentionally placed in the parks and said the devices are commonly sold as animal deterrent spikes used on fences or roofs.
Officials said the motive behind the incident is unclear. Police are continuing their investigation and may pursue search warrants as part of the case. In response, the city has increased park patrols and is taking steps to improve safety, including installing cameras, increasing lighting and conducting daily sweeps using metal detectors to ensure no other spikes remain.
