In West Yorkshire, Calderdale Council’s corporate health and safety reporting recorded 57 accidents involving school pupils in 2024-25, which was five fewer than the previous year.
The largest category was “playground incident,” accounting for 29 cases, with additional incidents recorded as slips, trips or falls (13). Other accident types included pupils hitting something fixed or stationary (4), injuries during sports activity (3), and pupils struck by a moving or flying object (2), with the remaining cases attributed to other incident types.
The incidents were reported to the council’s corporate health and safety team and were considered as part of the authority’s annual health and safety reporting. The report referenced a broader scope of council health and safety responsibilities, including incident reporting processes and legislative considerations linked to national events.
