From May 2025, Play Safe Institute offers a more flexible training structure for playground safety professionals who need to refresh their knowledge and maintain their certification.
Developed and reviewed by our qualified Trainer and Assessor, Lynnel Crockart – Director of Playground Safety Inspectors Australia, our recertification options help experienced inspectors stay current without unnecessarily repeating their original training.
Whether you need a focused refresher or would benefit from completing the full training again, there is an option to suit your experience, learning preferences and professional requirements.

Short Recertification Refresher Course
Our shortened refresher course is designed for previously trained playground inspectors who need to update their knowledge and recertify at their enroled inspection level.
The course focuses on the most important changes and developments from approximately the past three years. It provides more than three hours of targeted lectures, compared with the 14 hours of lecture content delivered during our standard two-day training.
The refresher course is available in two flexible formats:
- Live-streamed training, offered twice a year
- Online self-paced training, using an edited recording of the live-streamed course
Assessment requirements have also been streamlined. Participants are required to complete:
- One shortened quiz
- One playground inspection report at their enroled inspection level
This replaces the longer quiz and three to five inspection reports generally required during initial training.

Extended Recertification Training
Extended recertification is available for experienced inspectors who would benefit from repeating the complete lecture program.
This option includes the full course content delivered to new participants, including detailed guidance on how to read, understand and reference the relevant Australian Standards. Our In-person and full live-stream training events fall within this category (unless specified otherwise), with applicable practical or on-site learning included as part of the training format.
Although participants complete the full lecture content, the recertification assessment remains shortened. You will only need to submit:
- One shortened quiz
- One playground inspection report at your enroled inspection level
Extended recertification may be particularly valuable if it has been some time since your original training, your role has expanded, or you would like a comprehensive review of playground inspection practices and Standards.
Which Recertification Option Is Right for You?
| Option | Course content | Delivery | Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short refresher | More than three hours focused on key changes from approximately the past three years | Live stream twice a year or online self-paced | Short quiz and one inspection report |
| Extended recertification | Full lecture content, including how to read and reference the Standards | In person or full live stream, with applicable practical session or on-site training | Short quiz and one inspection report |
The right option will depend on your previous training, current inspection level, experience and how much content you would like while refreshing your knowledge.
