Why We’ve Updated Our Assessment Extension Process
If you’ve recently visited our Student Extension Request form, you may have noticed that we’ve introduced a more structured extension process, including extension fees. We’d like to explain why these changes have been made.
At Play Safe Institute, our priority is to help every student successfully complete their training and gain their qualification while their knowledge, skills and confidence are at their strongest.
Over time, we’ve reviewed our student outcomes and identified a consistent trend: the longer a student delays completing their assessments after commencing training, the less likely they are to complete the course successfully and achieve their certification. While we’ve always aimed to be flexible, extended delays often result in students losing confidence, forgetting key course content, and ultimately not reaching the outcome they originally enrolled for.
For this reason, we are placing a greater emphasis on completing training within the expected course timeframes.
Each student receives a training commencement date at enrolment. For self-paced courses, this is generally when your training materials are issued. For live training courses, it is the date you attend your training session. From this date, students are expected to progress through their course within the recommended timeframe for their enrolment, with all courses allowing a maximum completion period of four (4) months. This includes assessment resubmissions, trainer feedback, extension periods, and the standard reassessment timeframes provided throughout your course.
We understand that genuine circumstances can impact your ability to complete your training on time. Where this occurs, students may apply for an extension by submitting a Student Extension Request. All extension requests are formally reviewed by our Course Coordinators and Trainer/Assessors to ensure they are managed consistently and fairly.
Extension requests now include a fee or forfeit of an attempt. This helps cover the ongoing costs associated with extending your access to our Learning Management System (LMS), maintaining active student licences, processing extension requests, and providing additional trainer support where required.
Students experiencing exceptional circumstances may also request a Reasonable Adjustment in this form or discretely via email or phone. These requests may be considered outside the standard course timeframes and extension policy where appropriate supporting evidence is provided and approval is granted by the Trainer/Assessor. Private and confidential information is not stored on our servers and deleted securely after review and processing.
These changes have been introduced to improve student success, which currently sits at 98.5%. By encouraging students to stay engaged and complete their training within a reasonable timeframe, we can provide better support, maintain learning momentum, and help more students achieve the qualification they enrolled to obtain.
If you require additional time, please submit your request through our Student Extension Request form before your assessment modules access expires so we can work with you to determine the most appropriate pathway during your course completion.
