Skaters Push Back Against Town Plans to Remove Ageing Skatepark

Skaters in Delaware, USA are opposing plans to remove the skatepark at George Wright Park after the town announced the facility would be closed due to deteriorating equipment and infrastructure.

Town officials said the decision followed a safety review and advice from the town’s insurance provider, which would no longer provide coverage because of the park’s condition and associated liability risks. Local skaters and residents have expressed concern over losing one of the area’s few dedicated skate facilities, arguing it provides an important space for recreation and youth engagement.

A community petition has been launched in support of preserving or replacing the skatepark, while the town has indicated that future options will be considered as part of its ongoing Master Parks Plan review.
