A child sustained minor injuries after finding and activating a stun gun near a playground in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The device was discovered on May 19th, 2026, across from the playground, before being turned over to Authorities. Police said the child shocked themselves after handling the weapon but did not require medical treatment.
The stun gun was described as a rechargeable device shaped like brass knuckles and fitted with metal prongs. RCMP seized and disposed of the weapon and conducted patrols in the surrounding area, finding no additional weapons. Investigators are continuing to examine how the device came to be left near a public play area.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area. The incident has also prompted reminders for parents and guardians to educate children about avoiding unknown objects and reporting potentially dangerous items to a trusted adult.
