A large wooden play structure stolen from the playground of Guiding Minds Montessori School in Headingley, Manitoba, has been recovered by Winnipeg police following a search warrant execution at a Winnipeg home. The play structure was taken before the childcare centre opened on 30 May after thieves reportedly drove a vehicle through the playground fence and removed the equipment, which had been bolted to the ground.
Daycare owner Angie Izzard said she was shocked to discover the structure missing when she arrived at the centre and questioned how anyone could remove and transport such a large piece of playground equipment. She said some children were left upset by the theft, with several brought to tears because they regularly played on the structure.
Police recovered the play structure and a stolen recreational vehicle at a property in Winnipeg’s St. Vital area.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of break, enter and theft.
