Stolen Truck Crashes into School Playground

A stolen utility truck crashed through a fence and overturned inside the playground of S. Weir Mitchell Elementary School in Southwest Philadelphia after allegedly running a red light and colliding with multiple vehicles. Police said the incident began with an attempted carjacking before the suspect stole a work truck that had reportedly been left running nearby.

The truck struck several vehicles before entering the school grounds, where approximately 10 to 15 students had reportedly been present moments earlier. No children or school staff were injured, although the driver of another vehicle was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

A crossing guard who witnessed the incident described the chaotic scene as the truck smashed through the playground equipment and damaged fencing within the schoolyard. He reportedly assisted children and bystanders immediately after the crash. Authorities arrested an 18-year-old suspect at the scene.
