A man has suffered a broken ankle after falling several metres into a skatepark bowl at Scarborough in Perth. The incident occurred just before midnight when the 39-year-old fell into the “Snake Pit” bowl, which is understood to reach depths of approximately 3.6 metres.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, responded to the scene and carried out a complex rescue operation. A rope and pulley system was required to extract the man from the bowl, with the operation taking more than an hour to complete. There was no indication the man had been using a skateboard at the time, with reports suggesting he may have lost his footing before falling into the structure.
The incident raises concern for the inherent risks of deep bowl skatepark designs, particularly where fall heights are significant and access or egress is limited.
