Seven people, including five children, were injured after a malfunction on a family amusement ride at Boudewijn Seapark in Belgium. The incident occurred on the “Spring Ride,” a small drop tower-style attraction designed to lift riders to a height of just over 20 feet before descending. During operation, the ride unexpectedly dropped in an uncontrolled manner for the final section of its descent, estimated at around 13 feet.
All seven individuals sustained minor injuries, including bruising and back pain, and were taken to hospital for treatment. No life-threatening injuries were reported. The ride had recently reopened for the season, and park management stated there had been no prior issues with the attraction in its 12 years of operation.
Following the incident, the ride was immediately taken out of service pending further investigation. Authorities, including technical experts and Belgium’s Federal Public Service Economy, are assessing the cause of the malfunction. The park has indicated the attraction will remain closed until the issue is fully understood.
