Flooding turns Utah skate park into impromptu community pool

flooding turns utah skate park into impromptu community pool

Heavy rain and hail during a fast-moving storm flooded a skate park in Utah, filling its bowls with water and temporarily turning the facility into what appeared to be a community swimming area. The flooding occurred after intense rainfall fell within a short period, overwhelming drainage systems and allowing water to collect inside the skate park.

Photos shared by local police showed the skate park almost completely filled with water following the storm. Meteorologists said large amounts of hail can block storm drains, preventing water from draining properly and causing pooling and flash flooding in low-lying areas such as skate park bowls.

Some residents were seen entering the flooded skate park and using it as a temporary pool while the water remained. The flooding occurred during wider storm activity across the region that produced heavy rain, hail and localized flooding in several areas.
