The City of Stirling has announced the temporary closure of the popular Whale Playground at Scarborough Beach from Wednesday 3 December for up to two weeks whilst shade sails are constructed.
Shade Structures Western Australia
Shade structures are a critical component of playground safety, particularly in Western Australia’s harsh sun conditions. Rather than waiting for existing shade to deteriorate or prove inadequate, the City of Stirling is taking preventative action to ensure children can play safely during peak UV exposure periods.
Long Term Proactive Safety
For councils and facility managers across Australia, this project serves as a reminder that playground safety extends beyond equipment compliance. Adequate shade provision is essential for meeting Australian Standards and protecting children from sun exposure risks that can have long-term health consequences.
The City of Stirling’s investment in shade infrastructure demonstrates the kind of proactive thinking that prevents incidents before they occur and looking after their community. Organisations responsible for playgrounds should regularly assess their shade coverage and take action before deficiencies become safety issues.
Ensure your playgrounds meet Australian Standards for shade provision and sun safety. Contact Playground Safety Inspectors Australia for certified training and comprehensive inspection services covering shade structures.
