Concern raised as youth attempts parkour in multi-storey carpark

A video circulating on social media shows a teenage boy performing a parkour descent down a multi-storey car park in Singapore, leaping in a zig-zag pattern from one level to the next. The post accompanying the clip says he was excited to have achieved “one of [his] dreams.”

The footage has drawn attention to the rising popularity of parkour, which has seen steady growth in recent years. Once considered a niche activity, parkour is increasingly mainstream, with more coaching sessions, training camps and instructors responding to growing demand across age groups.

As participation rises, parkour is appearing more frequently in public spaces such as car parks and playgrounds. While many see it as a form of athletic expression and functional movement, its use in shared infrastructure has also raised safety and access concerns.

Previous incidents reported by members of the public and local authorities have involved parkour in restricted areas or trespassing. The video has reignited discussion around how public spaces are designed and managed, and whether dedicated facilities or clearer guidelines are needed to support the sport’s growth while protecting public safety.
