1-Year-Old Dies at Daycare Facility After Slipping Through Opening on Playground Toy Slide

Just a week into the new year, a Missouri family experienced a heartbreaking loss when their 1-year-old baby boy died in a freak accident at an in-home day care. He was reportedly playing on a toy slide and had slipped through a small opening. When he fell, his head “became lodged, restricting the airway and resulting in a loss of oxygen,” the release noted. Police and emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but could not revive the toddler.

The incident reportedly occurred inside the home of the woman operating the daycare facility, and the equipment was described as “two or three steps up to a little platform, and railings on the side of the slide. At the bottom of the railing was an opening about five inches tall, and it was big enough for the child’s body to slip down through, but not big enough for his head to fit.”
